Who we are:
This site is created to generate awareness, compassion and destigmatize a neuro atypical syndrome called Aspergers Syndrome. "Aspies" as they refer to themselves, are on the high functioning end of the autism spectrum. Simply put, the brains of Aspergers people are wired differently. They possess amazing gifts in most instances. These talents usually lie in the Arts and Sciences. They also possess almost photographic memories.
What is Aspergers Syndrome?
When most people hear the word autism, they tend to think of children who live in their own world and are uncommunicative. This is not what Aspergers looks like. Aspies have socialization challenges. They are usually very intelligent with above average IQ. There are many positive attributes as well as challenges. The neuro atypical brain of a person with AS has distinct areas of interests and often hyper focuses on these. However the AS PERSON is typically awkward at social discourse. Their tone is flat as well as possessing blunt communication styr. The Aspie has difficulty sensing cues from those he's engaged with. Because peers do not understand why an Aspie is the way he is, they are often bullied. As a result he or she suffers from depression and ends up isolating.
